15 Mantras to Get You Through a Tough Day



TOUGH DAYS.


We all have them.


I have been open and honest about how often I actually have tough days, which is unfortunately pretty often.


Whether you’re struggling with mental illness or not, we all have some days that just aren’t as good as others. If you are struggling with mental illness, a tough day can feel like a major setback. As you’re trying to navigate days like this where your mood is off, or it just seems the world is against you, it’s important to remember that you can always come back to your practice; whether that’s meditation, yoga, or just a positive mindset.


To help you and support you during these tough moments in your life, I put together a list of 15 of my favorite mantras that personally help me. You don’t need to use all 15. Maybe one will be more applicable one day, and a different one the next, and that is normal. Our mood, our energy, is constantly fluctuating. That is why it is so important to have not just a toolbox, but an arsenal of good vibes that can help in keeping you mindful and aware.



  1. EVERYTHING I NEED IS WITHIN ME. We often forget that we already have it. We have the power, the strength, the resiliency...everything we need is already there inside of us. We forget about all of the struggled we have already faced, and we become fearful. But it is all there. Sometimes you just need a reminder.

  2. I AM HUMAN. Human. Part of being human is messing up. We make mistakes, we fail, and we learn. If we don't make any mistakes, we will never learn how to be better and to grow. It is important that we recognize that we cannot be perfect all of the time. It is perfectly normal to have bad days, to mess up, and to struggle. Forgive yourself.

  3. I AM DOING THE BEST I CAN. And as a human, you are trying. You are trying your best, and that is what matters. Use this mantra to remind yourself that you are trying your best, and that alone is a success.

  4. I CHOOSE CALM. When the stress, anxiety, and panic begin to creep in and our thoughts become a storm, we can choose to be calm. Choose to soothe yourself and to seek comfort. Repeat this mantra when you feel the panic coming on and seek out a place where you can bring yourself back.

  5. MY THOUGHTS ARE JUST THOUGHTS. Our thoughts are so unbelievably powerful. The brain can convince us of things that are simply not true, just by our thoughts. But our thoughts are not reality. We can change our thoughts anytime we choose just by redirecting and correcting them. Our thoughts are just thoughts.

  6. I AM WORTHY. When you feel like you are not worthy, remind yourself that you are by repeating this mantra to yourself.

  7. I AM ENOUGH. You are. Really. You might not see it or believe it now, but it is the truth. You are enough. Keep repeating it until you believe it.

  8. I AM STRONGER THAN I THINK. We forget how strong we are and have had to be in our lives. We tend to focus more on how much we struggle or the negatives. It is essential to reflect back on what we have overcome in our lives as well. You are stronger than you think.

  9. I CHOOSE TO BE POSITIVE AND OPTIMISTIC. You have a choice: you can look at your day as completely ruined, or you can see an opportunity to remain positive. When we put out optimism and positive energy, it often comes back to us. It's okay to have a bad day, but remember to let it go.

  10. I AM GRATEFUL FOR STRUGGLE. This is a harder one. I am grateful for struggle. None of us want to struggle. We always wish our experiences were easier or simpler, but struggles make us who we are. They help us to become the strong, capable individuals that we are. It may be hard to view struggles in anything but a negative light, but by doing so, you open yourself up to more gratitude and love in your life. Try it.

  11. ALL THINGS ARE TEMPORARY. Name one thing that isn't. I'll wait.

  12. I ATTRACT ABUNDANCE. Looking to manifest? This mantra draws on the laws of attraction to bring abundance to you.

  13. I AM GROUNDED. Ground yourself. Let yourself feel supported by the Earth. Be present in this moment; here and now. Allow yourself to just be.

  14. I AM SAFE. You might not feel safe right now. Remind yourself that you are. Take a deep breath and repeat, "I am safe."

  15. I AM CENTERED. Bring yourself back. Bring your mind back from the future, or from the past. Center yourself in the present moment. Center your physical body and your spirit.
